As a criminal defense lawyer, I am professionally bound to be a duty expert on the lines between permissive and unconstitutional actions by law enforcement officers. I know how to hold meetings, read people, manage budgets, advocate and most importantly -- listen to and trust the true experts on staff. I see my role as Sheriff as a servant leader; own (and correct) all mistakes within the organization and delegate all credit where credit is due. I also see this position as wholly apolitical. I don’t serve any party agenda. I don’t heed private interests or trade favors or play pressure politics. I will serve my community’s best interests and support law enforcement’s mission to protect and serve. I will take my oath seriously.

Restore Accountable Leadership in Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Leadership
Internal Accountability for Employees
We will focus on support services for Sheriff’s Deputies that include mental health, phyical fitness and wellness.
Focused Fiscal Transparency
We will Publish BCSO budget and give taxpayers opportunity to comment on budget line items at County Commission meetings. We will promote participation of public in ensuring fiscal responsibility with $136.11 million budget
External Accountability to Taxpayers
We will remove officers that put community at risk & embarrass county Graduating sanctions for misconduct Protect Reputations of great officers
Body Cameras
We will protect great officers from false blame. Hold wrongdoers accountable for false reports against officers Protect community trust. Protect taxpayers from bad acts of those that tarnish the badges.
ABOUT OUR CAMPAIGN
Alton Edmond was born on August 5, 1989 and raised in Harlem just outside of Clewiston, Florida. He allowed the challenges of is poverty-stricken upbringing to spur him to success and after graduating with Honors from Clewiston High School went on to graduate from the University of Florida with his Bachelor of Arts and Florida A & M College of Law with his Juris Doctor. He currently owns and operates his own law firm Edmond Law and motivational speaking company Edmond Inspiration and is and teaches Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at Eastern Florida State College. His true passion is motivational speaking which he done at over more than fifty venues throughout Brevard, Orange and Hendry Counties and sponsoring/promoting student athletics.

I’m running for Sheriff because it is time for change. A community partnership oriented model that values and encourages transparency, accountability and civility while keeping our county safe is my goal.

I believe in the spirit of the U.S. Constitution. We strive to zealously defend it and its abuses, especially as it relates to our clients. We leave no stone unturned in our search, and in our fight for justice and equality.
COMMUNITY COMES FIRST
Every member of our community deserves every ounce of liberty, civility and respect due, as fellow Americans. No one should be afraid in Brevard. No one should fear retribution for doing the right thing, for speaking up, for not accepting the unacceptable. Public service isn’t a political spin-the-wheel game, and it’s not a place for bad people with fragile egos or hate in their hearts. Not on my watch.

Our men and women in uniform and support roles throughout the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deserve the best pay, the utmost respect and best-qualified leadership and support to do their jobs. They need a clear understanding of what they can and cannot do and they need a leader to set the right tone. Despite all the training in the world, it’s the organizational culture that allows evil to seep in. Not on my watch.
THE TIME IS NOW
I didn’t intend to put my life and career on hold to run for this office, but the times and circumstances clearly call for change. The voices throughout our community were loud and desperate, hoping for someone -- anyone -- to stand up to the incumbent. I’m answering this plea. I’m qualified for this office. I’m ready to lead, protect and serve this community and restore a culture of transparency, accountability, civility and community in the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
